Books I've read recently #2
You Had Me at Hello - Mhairi McFarlane - I bought this because it was cheap and I fancied a typical easy reading romance novel. I was presently surprised that this one is well written and had me truly feeling for the characters. The plot is possibly a little predictable but not enough so that it becomes boring at any point. I read this over a short period of a few days because the I wanted to know how it worked out for the pair in the story as well as the characters around them. If you're looking for a light read that will warm your insides I'd recommend this one.
Is It Just Me? - Miranda Hart - I got this book for Christmas from my grandparents as they usually buy me a book like this. In previous years I've laughed my way through the autobiographies of Ant and Dec, Peter Kay and Alan Carr to keep the January blues at bay. This book was more of a collection of short anecdotes on various areas of Miranda's life rather than a full autobiography. I enjoyed it and at parts did laugh out loud whilst reading it. If you're not a fan of Miranda's comedy then I imagine the book won't be for you but if you're unlucky enough to be one of life's awkward or clumsy people then I imagine you'll be able to relate to her stories. I did find that it was a little strangely written with Miranda having conversations with her younger self throughout but once I got used to it I found it quite entertaining.
The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared - Jonas Jonasson - This book was (and still is) 20p for the kindle, it got some great reviews and at that price I decided to give it a go. I have to say I wasn't a fan of this book. I found it a little bit too long and at points a bit of a struggle to read. I found myself wanting to finish it purely so I could start another book. As a history geek I did somewhat enjoy the flashes of the old man's past and especially his dealings with different leaders of the world. However I found some parts quite repetitive. I also found that I didn't really relate to any of the characters and had no real interest in how their story came to its conclusion. Despite this for 20p it was an ok book and possibly one you could start and put down as you wanted. It was by no means bad, it just didn't live up to the other reviews I've seen.
I do love a good book in January, it's nice to eat leftover Christmas chocolate and forget real life whilst reading about someone elses I think. Any book recommendations? Anything you've read recently I should have a look at?
